I hope that he can help you or at least try to.
Instead, concerning inverters on fire fighting pumps I do not know nfpa in detail as you do. In any case my idea is that you must be very careful because the fire system must be very simple and reliable in operation therefore in my opinion he vfd is not recommended because it can give troubles of reliability in the moment of need, which is always emergency. Also it would be interesting to know why you need the spèeed variation, this seems strange to me In any case for fire fighting. In Italy and Europe I have never seen a pumping station for ff with variable speed drive and personally I would never install one as per above. If you have a case in which you need very different pressures on various circuits it is better to use more than one pump group, each with the necessary pressure head on the specific circuit (I. E. Hydrants and sprinklers)
In any case you can try to ask angerame and maybe other suppliers of pumps. Consider that also for water mist the Marioff system works always with maximum flow ad has a system to bypass to the water tank all the flow that cannot go to system. Therefore this system creates a variable flow without any speed control.
Hope this is a good starting point for your needs, please do no hesitate to ask again if you need.
