Abstract:The Internet of Things, based on information sensing equipment and the Internet, connects everything to create an interconnected smart earth. Lightning protection is an important industry concerning the safety and benefits of the people. Under the historical background of the Internet of Things, traditional lightning protection needs to transform to the safer and faster intelligent lightning protection with the aid of the Internet of Things. The intelligent surge protection device,as the core equipment of the lightning protection system, can restrict the overvoltage into the electrical system and release surge current,so as to protect the equipment in the electrical system. The paper, based on the status quo of the Internet of Things, analyzes the working principle of the intelligent surge protection device, and provides the frame structure of the intelligent regional lightning monitoring and warning system from the perspective of architectural layers. At last, the status quo of intelligent lightning protection is summarized and its future development is forecasted.
